“Buckle Up!!”

Scriptures:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 (KJV)

Devotion:

Rules are designed to instill order and structure within an establishment. Without any rules everything would be surrounded by total chaos. I remember when I was younger, we had rules for everything from how much to feed the dog to the sitting arrangements in the car. Back then to me, some things didn’t make sense especially when it came to riding in a car. To be fair, everyone had an assigned day for sitting in the front seat. I was not a big fan of it simply because I didn’t want to wear the seatbelt. You see, back then children under a certain age were not required to wear a seat belt in the back seat and that is where I preferred to sit. I didn’t like being restricted or those moments when the seat belt would randomly lock. I didn’t understand it then but as I got older, I realized that seat belt was there for my protection and when in use, it would keep me safe during the times of trouble.

Reflection:

A belt comes in many forms and serves multiple purposes. The Roman soldiers secured the rest of their armor with a belt that they wore tightly across their waist. The belt added support and strength to the core. It also provides a place for the sword to be carried daily so that it can be used effectively when needed. If the belt is not secure or it’s crooked, then it will be harder for the soldier to grab a hold of his sword. This is also true for the armor of God. The belt is the truth and it holds the sword of the spirit therefore linking truth to the Word of God. It is a vital piece of armor that defends our being in the battles that we face from the lies and deceptions of the enemy. It is important to understand the truth so that we are not continuously tricked or deceived. Just like that seat belt that I mentioned earlier, the belt of truth also protects us and prepare us for the battles that come our way.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, it is visible that over the year’s things change and so do people but knowing the absolute truth and writing it within my heart, will always be a vital piece of the armor. Help me to stand firm in the truth and to do a daily armor check to make sure that everything is tightly secured by the belt. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen!
