Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:9 [NLT "]For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus"
Devotion: The helmet is a part of the armor that a Roman soldier used in battle to protect the head. Without this vital piece of armor, the soldier truly opened himself up for instant death if there was a blow to the head. In Ephesians 6:17, the Apostle Paul says, "And take the helmet of salvation..." (KJV). So when Paul says to "...take the helmet of salvation" we, you and I :), have been GIVEN something that cannot be taken from us, praise God! According to the dictionary, one meaning of "Take" is to "reach for and hold". Other phrases used to describe take in the dictionary are to "get hold of...to grasp". We must first TAKE (get a hold of...grasp) this gift of salvation that we did not earn because God has given us this gift. And to say it again, if we do not first "take" it, reach for it, grasp and hold it, how then can we have the helmet that He has given us to protect us from injury to our mind, spirit, and an opportunity for ever-lasting life? Reflection: Yes sis, no doubt there are so many battles we face- with others at work, in our families, and even within ourselves (at times our loudest critic). BUT WITH GOD....freedom from sin and freedom from horrible thinking patterns and ways that lead us to self-destruct or interfere with us having all that God has for us is within reach. And most of all, deliverance ("the action of being rescued or set free) is also available to us from ALL things, including people, that keeps us apart from experiencing the greatest relationship & love EVER!...but we must first TAKE it! Prayer: Heavenly Father, without a doubt, you are truly the greatest and most meaningful love of my life. I have no vocabulary or words that come close to expressing to you what I have received by TAKING what you have GIVEN to me!! What I do know is that you deserve my praise and today, I thank you for being you...and for loving me just as I was when we met, and for continuing to encourage me on this journey with you. Great is thy faithfulness!! My prayer is for all reading this to "take" hold of what only you can offer and to know that you will gladly meet her (or him) :), anytime or anyplace. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen! With Love in Christ, Sis Tee West
