SCRIPTURE:
Above all, taking the shield of faith, where with ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Ephesians 6:16 KJV)
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. (James 2: 20, 26 KJV)
DEVOTION:
So many times in life through personal experiences as well as via conversation with others, I find that it’s so easy to talk a good faith game. As Christians we tend talk about how much faith we have rather out of habit or as a means to convince ourselves or others that our faith claim is true.
We say we have faith to get that job promotion but when it’s time to apply we don’t. We say we have faith to get that new car or house we’ve dreamt of having but we let our credit scores and financial situation keep us from moving forward when God is telling us to make that move. We say we have faith that God is a healer and deliverer but when put to the test we tend to forget what we said we believe.
Given all this, in addition to the fiery darts of busyness, anxiety, and insecurities the enemy is forever using to distract us from the path that God has laid before us, fear grips us because of the unknown resulting in the stiffening our faith in God and the blinding of our eyes to the truth that lives in his word. Sometimes based on personal experiences, what God is telling us to do doesn’t make sense in our own mind. When we act in faith it says we believe what God is saying is true and it proves our reliance on God. As Proverbs 30:5 states “ Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him”.
REFLECTION:
God has proven his faithfulness to us over and over again. Even in the midst of disappointment and hurtful situations, God is dependable, he can be trusted, his word is true and our faith in him and in his promises makes us more than conquerors. Faith means action. Doing what God says even when we can’t see the outcome. Sometimes our perception of God is cloudy blocking our faith from operating properly. Whatever is clouding your judgement of who God is and what he can do, lets pray that he shows us how to overcome those things in the mighty name of Jesus.
PRAYER:
Oh Lord our Lord how excellent is thy name in all the earth. The heavens declare your glory and the skies proclaim the work of your hands! Today we pray that you help us to put our faith into action. We know that the enemy is always busy trying to distract us from the perfect plan you have for us but our faith in you quenches all the fiery darts intended to destroy us. Help us to stand on your word because your word is truth. Help us to walk unwavering as you direct us in the way that we should go. Just as you are faithful, help us to be faithful. Just as you are holy, help us to be holy. In Jesus name, Amen.
