FIGHT OR FLIGHT

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13 GW

There isn’t any temptation that you have experienced which is unusual for humans. God, who faithfully keeps his promises, will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist. But when you are tempted, he will also give you the ability to endure the temptation as your way of escape.

From the biblical standpoint FIGHT simply means to strive for victory in a battle or in a single combat. It then goes on to mention destroying an enemy by blows or weapons. The moment an attack takes place, understanding the definition of this word is important when it comes to defeating the enemy at hand. He too strives to gain a victory so he uses different strategies on a personal level that will hinder you from being a conqueror. He takes the time to carefully examine your weaknesses and your strengths as well as your current situation and your past. He does what is necessary in order to reel you in and hook you so that you will not hinder him from accomplishing his goals.

On the other hand, FLIGHT refers to fleeing, running away, or escaping danger. It is what naturally occurs when fear and doubt set in which restricts our actions to stand firm and fight. It hinders us from gaining the wisdom and knowledge that is needed in order to understand which area of our life that the enemy is using to develop his strategic plan. It sends us to a hiding place which in return gives us the perfect opportunity to pray, armor up, and stand guard. When we flee from a situation, it does not always mean that we will stay hidden. It can just simply mean we are preparing ourselves for battle.

Reflection:

In order to defeat the enemy, you must know the areas that he will use to find the right bait to fight against you. The enemy will attack your passion, your focus, your identity, your family, your confidence, your calling, your purity, your rest and contentment, your heart, and your relationships. For me, he uses my past like he went through it with a fine tooth comb and he comes at me from the north, south, east, and west. It is hard for the enemy to win when you are standing firm in God’s armor.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, As the enemy develops his plan to attack, help me to develop a plan of defeat. My past is not who I am nor does it define my future. Thank you for equipping me with courage, wisdom, and strength as I face each day that I am blessed with. Knowing that you will fight my battles for me and that you have given me the armor that I need, gives me a peace of mind. Make the enemies devices and plans transparent so that I will remain aware of what he will use to attack. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
