God’s Truth is the Light

SCRIPTURE:

Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth (Ephesians 6:14 NLT)

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32 JV)

Behold you desire truth in the innermost being, and in secret you will make wisdom known to me (Psalm 51:6 NASB)

DEVOTION:

Growing up, I was no stranger to regularly attending church services. As far back as I can remember I was practically raised in the church. If my parents weren’t taking me, it was my grandmother or my great aunt. Not only did they take me, I was made to pay close attention instead of playing or sleeping. Therefore, I think it’s safe to say I’ve had ample opportunity to learn what the truth looks like. When I think about the truth and my perspective of truth being displayed, it makes me think about my grandmother, Mary Helen Williams, whom we all called Mother. She knew a lot about the truth. Not only did she know it well, but she also lived it. In her latter years, when I or anyone else for that matter would call her and ask how she was doing, her response would be “I’m too blessed to be stressed, too anointed to be disappointed, too equipped to be whipped, I got a grip and I won’t let go, I’m still holding on and I’m gonna run on and see what the end is gonna be”. That response alone, among other things let me know that my grandmother had been fully exposed to the truth. The truth being God’s word. She was basically stating that she knew that God’s truth is the light, that she believed she was everything that God said she was, and that she knew everything that God said he would provide was hers without question!

REFLECTION:

Through my own exposure to the truth, I found that all things become visible when they are exposed to the light. It is how we distinguish between not only right and wrong, but between right and almost right. WE know that one of the enemy’s primary tools of choice is deception. He comes to strip away everything we know to be true about God and HIS word. He uses a counterfeit approach through our emotions, our thoughts, and our desires. He is the father of lies and he masquerades as an angel of light. Standing firm on God’s truth is essential to not be easily deceived. Even though the enemy uses personalized targeted attacks on each of us, we can be assured that we are more than conquerors by standing firm on God’s unchanging standards.

PRAYER:

Dear God, I stand firm assured that I am who YOU say I am and that I can have what YOU say is mine. Help me to no longer be immature like a child being tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching or be influenced when people or the enemy try to trick me with lies that are so clever they sound like the truth. Expose my entire being to the lasso of your truth so that my emotions, thoughts, and desires can be a representation of truth as it is meant to be seen according to your word. In Jesus name, so be it.
