Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Titus 3:1-2 ESV
Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.
Devotion:
When we hear the word submit, we automatically sigh with a negative emphasis. This is simply because the human side of us may have trouble submitting to any type of authority other than our own. However, when we allow the spiritual nature of our being to step in and take lead, it is then that we learn the value of what it truly means to submit. The meaning of submit is to give over or yield to the power or authority of another. This does not just mean submitting to God or your spouse, but it also means to submit to leadership, to friendship, and to kinship. Becoming humble in the time of trouble or even in a negative situation not only reflects your Godly character but it shows the enemy that you can resist his devices from all directions.
Reflection:
Can you find anything truly wrong when it comes to being submissive to someone else who is in a leadership position?? What if that someone else was a friend or a family member? No matter who is in the position, it is important to always remember to be submissive, obedient, ready to work, show courtesy, and to be gentle. Of course, there are going to times when the flesh feels like it may take over and we may step out of character but if we continue to submit and listen to the inner voice, God will truly help us avoid any argument that enemy maybe trying to stir up.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
As I enter this new phase of my life, help me to stay all in even when I feel that my boundaries are being tested. Strengthen my ears to hear no evil, my eyes to see no evil, and my lips to speak no evil so that I may do no evil. Help me Lord to maintain the ability to be submissive and if there is ever a time that I may forget or my flesh may become weak, help me to remember. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
