Scripture:
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV)
Devotion:
God has an established order of operations for everything that He has created. In the Garden of Gethsemane the night before his crucifixion, Jesus defined the meaning of a perfect submission. Being made of flesh, Jesus did not want to go through the pain and suffering he knew he had to face. He stated in Matthew 26:39, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will”. Even with the threat of death looming, He did not exercise His own will but obeyed His Father. Jesus refused to avoid the cross. He pleaded in agony while hanging on the cross for strength to fulfill His Father’s will. As Christians, there will be several circumstances in our lives that we will not want to face or go through. However, with the knowledge and understanding that submission is God’s will and that we have been created with the purpose of honoring and glorifying him, it helps us fulfilled our mission. Like Jesus, once we have successfully completed our mission in life, we will receive our eternal reward. Life with God.
Reflection:
Submission is not a popular word in our culture. We prefer to be on top, in charge, in control. As Christians, we should not worry about whether we have honor and glory in this life. Our focus should be on God and our ability to honor and serve him. To surrender our own thoughts and desires to God’s will is one of the greatest reverence of respect to who he is in our lives. Submission represents faithfulness to God, and it is faithfulness to God that Jesus exemplified throughout his life. Now, it is our turn. Will you continue in your own ways? Or will you submit to God? The choice is yours!
Prayer:
Almighty Lord and Savior, thank you choosing me for this special mission “Operation Submission”. You gave Jesus to be my example. His submission on the cross has given me the Holy Spirit to guide me and help me walk through the process of surrendering my all to you. Lord because I am human, I still fall short when it comes to submitting to mankind and the laws of the land, at times. Help me exchange my rebellion and stubbornness for a willing and obedient heart. When I refuse to listen, anoint my ears to hear; when I am blinded by my own desires, open my eyes to see that everything I do and say is a reflection of you. I know that I belong to you. It is my desire to remain obedient to your will, Father. My faith in you and your love for me inspires me to surrender all I am to your will. I am committed to my operation of submission. I also know that I am an over comer by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony. This and all prayers I ask in the majestic name of Jesus the Christ, Amen!
