SCRIPTURE:
Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. Then God’s peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7, GW)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you: Not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27, KJV)
DEVOTION:
How often do we hear the phrase “Life happens”? When life does happen, what do we do? How do we handle the ‘things’ that happen to us? Rather it’s sickness, the sudden passing of a loved one, financial difficulties, the loss of a child, home foreclosure , the disappointment we and others feel when we don’t make the best choices or any other thing that could possibly happen that is disheartening. Do we lose control, throw aside our faith in God, feel as if we are betrayed by God, or do we keep trusting, believing God knows and understands exactly where we are and how we feel and that his thoughts towards us are still those of peace and not evil? Having peace with God can only come from having a personal relationship with HIM, in return we are gifted the peace of God giving us reassurance that God is still in control. God’s peace never fails, it holds us in those moments when we feel most vulnerable. When circumstances should’ve torn us apart physically, mentally, and emotionally God’s peace is our anchor. It allows us to keep a firm grip, gives us the ability to function, and keeps us sane.
REFLECTION:
Life is filled with many uncertainties however, one thing that we can be sure of is that Jesus Christ never changes He is the same yesterday, today and forever! (Hebrews 13:8) When things happen in our life that we may not understand or that may catch us off guard compromising our stability, as Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, all we have to do is go to God in prayer making our requests known unto Him and at the same time give Him thanks! HALLELUJAH, GLORY BE TO GOD!! Then the peace of God will surround us and carry us through every situation and circumstance. Keep your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace so you can stand firm and have a restful mind when ‘life happens’.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, our Lord how excellent is thy name in all the earth. I thank you for your peace that goes far beyond my understanding. I pray that in times of trouble as well as in those calm moments that I remember who you are. Thank you for your assurance that I can rest easy knowing that I am not fighting this battle alone but you have equipped me and you are with me wherever I go, rather in the valley, the desert or on the mountain top, you are there!
In Jesus’ name, Amen
Sis Selika Newton
