Scripture verse: Corinthians 13:12 (Easy-to-Read Version)
“It is the same with us. Now we see God as if we are looking at a reflection in a mirror. But then, in the future, we will see him right before our eyes. Now I know only a part, but at that time I will know fully, as God has known me.”
Devotion:
When you look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see a strong, beautiful, intelligent, creative, and caring individual? Do you see in yourself what God sees in you?
There are many forms of relationships that we often spend so much time trying to improve however, we often forget about the relationship we have with ourselves. I would like to turn your attention toward Gideon, a man who struggled with the vision he saw of himself. A man that felt he was not worthy and appeared to be timid. A man that believed he was not capable of saving Israel. A man that showed fear, anxiety, and doubt. A man that didn’t feel he was a mighty man of valor like God declared him to be.
A lot of times we place “a road closed ahead sign” in front of the path that God has for us. We place our talents and capabilities in a box because we listen to the negative inner voice instead of trusting and believing in God. God sees us and what we can do. He knows who we are and what is in our heart. He knows the pain we have endured, the dreams we have, the fears we face, the future that is before us and strength that is within us. God knows what we can do even if we don’t know it ourselves. When we put our faith and trust in God, He will erase all doubt restoring our vision to the point that we see ourselves the way God sees us.
Prayer:
Dear God, as I examine myself help me to fix the reflection so that I can see within myself what you see. Block out the inner voice that is causing more harm than good. Fill my mind and heart with positive affirmations as I build the relationship, I have with myself. As I learn to love myself the way you love me, help me to adopt other relationships that are good for me and remove those that are not. Help me to be kind as well as speak life over myself and remove all doubt that may try to creep back in. I know that with you and through you, I can do all things for you will provide the strength and the path for me to do so. My Lord, I thank you in advance for making my vision clear and helping me to love the person you have designed me to be. AMEN
Reflection:
How old were you when you learned to love yourself? Remember that loving yourself not only includes the now but it also requires freeing yourself from the past. When we take the time to look at the reflection of ourselves, we find that defeating the Goliath we have within us is easier than we thought when we truly allow God to unblur the negative vision we see of ourselves. With a new and clear vision, our self-relationship will be strengthened and our connection with God will reach a whole new level.
