Scripture:
Psalm 145:1-2 (ESV) I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
Devotion:
We make personal declarations such as goals- daily, weekly, monthly or even yearly. We proclaim these goals, with the intention to bring about a change, something different that we are in desire of. These goals are stated out loud, or in our minds or hearts or even written on paper. But after all of this good intention, the question is- are you committed? After all, your commitment is demonstrated not when things are easy, but when it is challenged.
With that said, I want you to think about your commitment to praise- to praise God, even when you are facing challenges and enduring difficulties. David the Psalmist understood this very well. Through all his shortcomings and wrongdoings, challenges and life difficulties, he understood the reasons to praise the Lord.
In essence, a life committed to praise is like a life-vest when you cannot swim or facing troubling rip currents and you are in the middle of the ocean——-meaning, it [praise] will bring you out! A commitment to praise is a life-preserver and life-sustainer!
Reflection:
Through your tears, praise Him. Through the confusion, praise Him. You may not like His answer, praise Him. You may not understand, praise Him. You may think it’s unfair, praise Him. Remember, commitment is demonstrated when things are not so easy. And think about this, how will your life shift if you live a life of committed praise?
Prayer:
Lord, I am mindful of the causes to praise you- because you are worthy, you are great, you are gracious, compassionate and merciful, you sustain me when I fall, you are righteous, trustworthy and kind. I thank you Lord for my personal praise! In the beautiful & glorious name I pray, in Jesus’ name- Amen!
